The Internship Wave at HABB

From August 4, a new chapter quietly unfolded at HABB , one that excites me deeply. We began training our very first wave of interns. What started with the HABB journey back in June at Innovay Jaffna has now evolved into something bigger: a platform not just to build products, but to nurture talent.
The Internship Program
HABB’s internship program is designed to mirror the diversity of what we do: AI/ML, Development, Business, and Cybersecurity. Instead of running it like a typical internship where students just “shadow” or do small tasks, we’ve chosen a different path – training them step by step, helping them grow into problem-solvers who can create real impact.
How We Started
- August 4: Kick-off with a virtual orientation. We hosted our first sessions via Google Meet, setting the tone for what’s ahead. (Screenshots of those calls are worth keeping -they capture the spark in every new face.)

- Week 1: Introduction to HABB’s culture and journey. We walked them through how an idea became a workplace in Jaffna, and how partnerships shaped our growth.
- Week 2 onwards: Streamlined training paths – AI/ML interns diving into models and algorithms, development interns building and breaking code, business interns exploring strategies, and cyber interns stepping into the security-first mindset.
The People Behind the Scenes
This effort wouldn’t be possible without the guidance and constant support of two amazing colleagues – Andrew Asher and Thiksiga Ragulakaran. Along with Senthalan Vyravanathan, they’ve been shaping the curriculum, mentoring the interns, and giving them direction. To me, that’s the heart of HABB: people who give back while building forward.

The Meetups
Beyond screens, the energy carried over into in-person meetups. Recently, we welcomed interns from SLIIT Malabe, Northern University Jaffna, and IIT. Each meetup felt less like a “formality” and more like a family gathering. We brainstormed, shared stories, and set goals. Watching interns from different parts of Sri Lanka connect under the HABB banner was a reminder: this is more than a program; it’s the start of a network of builders.

Looking Ahead
The journey with these interns is just beginning, but already, I see HABB’s mission taking new shape. What we’re building is not only products, but people. And that, I believe, is how true impact lasts.

HABB started as an idea. Today, it’s becoming a place where the next generation learns, grows, and builds the future. 🚀
